App updates and version¶
AppToMe almost always updates itself. This page explains where to read the version you are using, what happens when a new one comes out, and the few cases where you have to do something yourself.
Which version am I using¶
The version is written in small print in two places:
- at the bottom of the menu (the three-line icon, top right);
- at the bottom of the My profile and preferences page.
It reads like this: v3.2.1 (127) — the first number is the version, the one in
brackets the build. Always quote them when you report a problem (see
Profile and account): they are the first thing
whoever has to understand what happened needs.
If the beta label appears next to the version, your phone receives the test versions before everyone else. It is a choice made by whoever set up the app for you: if you do not know why you have it, ask a manager.
When a new version comes out¶
A warning appears at the top: A new version is available, with the Update button. It stays there until you tap it or dismiss it: it does not disappear on its own.
On the phone, tapping Update makes the app download the new version, show Updating… and restart by itself. It takes a few seconds, and for a moment you see the start screen again.
From a computer browser, tapping Update reloads the page. If you are filling something in, save first: the reload throws away what you have written and not yet sent.
You can ignore it
If you are in the middle of a shift and do not want interruptions, feel free to dismiss the warning. On the phone the update applies by itself the next time you reopen the app: it never reloads the app while you are using it.
The app checks whether there is something new every few minutes and every time you bring it back to the foreground. There is no "check for updates" button: if the warning does not appear, you are already using the most recent version.
When you have to go through the store instead¶
Sometimes the warning says Update the app from the store to keep receiving updates. In that case the button does nothing on its own: the new version requires a part of the app that is only updated from the store.
- Open App Store (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play (Android).
- Search for AppToMe and tap Update.
Until you do, you keep using the app, but you stay on the version you have.
Anything concerning the phone itself also always goes through the store — fingerprint or face login, push notifications, clocking with location: automatic updates cannot change those.
If the update fails¶
It can happen that the version just downloaded does not start. You do not have to do anything: the app goes back by itself to the previous one, which worked, and will not offer you that version again. You keep working as before and the fix arrives with the next release.
If instead the app stays stuck on the start screen, close it completely and reopen it. If after two attempts the problem remains, report it: state the version you read in your profile, if you can get to it.
