Volunteer guide

This guide walks you through everyday use of AppToMe: signing up, joining your organization, making yourself available for shifts, clocking in, filling in checklists, following courses and growing your card.

What AppToMe is

AppToMe is the app your organization uses to organize shifts and activities, and the app you use to make yourself available straight from your phone. The volunteer is at the centre: the app keeps count of the hours you give, the shifts you cover and the tasks you take on, and every year gives you a collectible card that grows with your service.

Where to download the app

You can also use AppToMe from a computer browser: the screens are the same, only the layout changes. Some features do require the app installed on your phone: fingerprint or face login, push notifications and clocking with location.

Getting around the app

Inside an organization there are two ways to move around.

The bottom bar keeps the four everyday things within thumb's reach: Dashboard, Board, Calendar and the Notifications bell. The red dot on the bell means there is something unread.

The menu (the three-line icon, top right) opens everything else, split into groups:

At the top of the menu is the organization you are operating in, with the button to switch organization if you belong to more than one; at the bottom, My profile and preferences.

You will not see all of these entries: only the ones enabled for your organization and allowed by your role appear. Shift swaps, for instance, only appears if at least one calendar allows it, and Vehicle bookings only if a bookable vehicle exists.

How this guide is organized

The chapters follow the order in which you will meet things:

  1. Sign-up and login — create your account and join your organization.
  2. Dashboard — your personal area, the first screen you see every time.
  3. Shifts — the heart of the app: reading the calendar and making yourself available.
  4. The following chapters cover the individual features: clockings, checklists, board, courses, activities, vehicles, notifications, your card, profile and app updates.

If something is missing

Not every organization uses every AppToMe feature: some are only enabled when needed. If something described in this guide is missing from your app, it is not a fault: ask a manager in your organization whether that module is active and whether you have the permissions to see it.
